The former picnic island of Kuda Bandos in Kaafu atoll was opened as a tourist resort last Monday.
Branded as “Malahini Kuda Bandos” the four-star resort features 82 rooms of five types, including beach villas of 40 square metres and garden rooms of 22 – 24 square metres. However, Kuda Bandos does not boast any water villas.
Facilities at the resort include two bars, restaurant, spa and a marine and recreation centre for water sports and diving.
Situated 9.7 kilometres away from capital Male, Kuda Bandos island was awarded by the government for resort development in 2013 during a move to convert picnic islands to tourist resorts.
The opportunity provided by the government had also seen Maadhoo Finolhu island in Kaafu atoll developed into luxury resort “OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo”. Currently, the picnic island of Kodhipparu in the same atoll is also being developed as a resort.
