The Elections Commission has imposed an MVR 25,000 fine against Adhaalath Party for failure to properly maintain financial records.

According to the Elections Commission's website, Adhaalath Party has been fined MVR 25,000 as they have failed to maintain financial documents as stipulated in the Political Parties Act.

Elections Commission said that the Adhaalath Party has been fined because the party's 2024 Audit Report, submitted on October 6, highlights that the party failed to maintain appropriate records and details of its expenses, despite Article 41 of the Political Parties Act stipulating that all parties must maintain such records.

The Elections Commission further said that the audit report notes that as relevant documentation supporting prices quoted by the party for goods and services were not submitted, the figures could not be independently verified.

In July, Adhaalath Party, which currently has a 6000-strong membership, was fined MVR 50,000 for failing to submit financial statements. At the time, MDP and MNP were also fined for the same reason.

Political parties are required to submit the previous year's annual report and financial statement to the Elections Commission within the first three months of a year.
