In the case where former Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has been accused of child sexual abuse while in a position of trust, the Ministry of Social and Family Development has appealed for information about the child to not be revealed.

A statement from the ministry released tonight reads that children are supposed to receive special assistance and security from family, the community and the state, however, they have noticed that there has been an unusual increase in children's personal information being shared on various media platforms in a way that detracts from their sanctity.

The ministry's statement appeals to not share children's information that may cause harm to their dignity and protection.

The law states that in the case of children accused of a crime, children who have been the victims of a crime, or children who require care and protection for any other reason, information related to them, especially their names, address, their place of education, or any details that can identify them, or their picture, must not be revealed directly or indirectly by any media or any other source.

However, some information about children who have been victims of sexual abuse have been shared on media and social media.

Shahid has been arrested and remanded for 30 days over allegations of child sexual abuse. As there is a child involved in this case, the police and the court have not revealed any further details about the case.
