A donor is being sought for Avid College Chairman Abdulla Musthaq Rashaadh's second kidney transplant.

Musthaq suffered total kidney failure in 2010. He was on dialysis for a year and then went to Sri Lanka in 2011 for a kidney transplant. However, as doctors kept telling him his transplanted kidney was "weakening", he left Maldives to conduct testing.

Musthaq, who is currently in Bangkok, Thailand for treatment, told Mihaaru News today that he went there this month and has conducted testing at Bangkok Hospital, with results from doctors showing he has "renal kidney failure". He said that dialysis treatment was immediately started afterward.

"This is the second day I have to undergo dialysis treatment. If I want to save my own life, it can be done by quickly doing a second transplant," said Musthaq.

Musthaq stated that as it is not easy to find a kidney donor and even if all of his family members are ready to donate, it is difficult to find a donor among family members due to health reasons.

Doctors have advised Musthaq to undergo a kidney transplant as soon as possible before the body's health deteriorates. And even though he has an average weight of 59 kilograms, the coming days after kidney failure has lowered his body weight to 44.5 kilograms.

"I want to secure a kidney and get it transplanted as soon as possible," said the father of three daughters.

Musthaq went on to say that many people have been texting and calling him after his medical state was publicized. However, he said that he has not been able to speak properly for the last two to three days because of his worsening illness.

"Even so, I could speak a little bit yesterday and today as well. I still feel that pain, I am still going through it," spoke Musthaq.

He continued by stating that while he is in Bangkok for treatment, Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand Fuad Thaufeeq and other senior state officials have been calling and aiding him.

Musthaq, who has served the education sector in Maldives for many years, ran a tuition center in Villimale' in 1998 even before he opened the Avid Tuition Center in 2005. He has conducted education programs in various islands in Maldives. Avid Tuition Center was changed into a college in 2013.

Musthaq played a key role in the creation of Avid College and the expansion of its services in all corners of Maldives. Additionally, he also held the position of President at the Private Higher Education Association of Maldives.
