MAHRP hosts first knowledge sharing event on 'Workplace Law'

Maldives Association of Human Resource Professionals held a conference on ‘Workplace Law’ as part of its Knowledge Share series yesterday at the Maldives National Auditorium.

Held in partnership with Maldives Law Institute and Maldives National University's Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism studies, the conference was facilitated by prominent lawyers in the Maldives; Hussain Siraj, Mohamed Shahdy Anwar and Mariyam Manal Shihab.

Commencing at 10 a.m., MAHRP’s first event was attended by 57 leaders in Human Resources  Management from both the private and public sector including major corporations such as Bank of Maldives, ADK Enterprises, Maldives Airports Company Limited as well as representors from the tourism sector such as LUX* Resorts & Hotels,  Vakkaru Maldives, Kandima Maldives, S Hotels and Resorts (Maldives) Pvt Ltd and many others.

A variety of topics concerning employment and contract law were raised during the conference with dialogues mainly concentrated on key areas of grievances, attendance, leave compensation and benefits.

“We are committed to improving human resource management in the Maldives by continually hosting knowledge sessions and by including all HR Professionals in a joint effort to enrich and build human capital.”

Mr. Hussain Afeef, President of Maldives Association of Human Resource Professionals and Regional Director of Training, Development and Quality Assurance from LUX* Resorts & Hotels, assured Mihaaru that the series of conferences would continue throughout the year.

The initiative aims to build a constructive dialogue with legal experts focusing on labor laws and also to share human resource knowledge among professionals in the country.

“There is a lot of opportunity and potential for growth, and we are keen to show others what can be possible when we all work together as a team for the greater benefit of our communities,” said Afeef.

The event concluded with the distribution of a copy of the book, ‘Maldives Employment Law” authored by conference facilitator, Manal Shihab.

Inaugurated in February 2018, MAHRP is the first professional association registered in the Maldives, dedicated to human resources and people development.
