President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu gave his assurance last night that he would not do anything that would undermine the nation's pillars such as its long-standing 100 percent Muslim country status, the independence of its citizens and the identity of Maldivians.
He gave this assurance while giving a speech at Republic Square during the Victory Day ceremony.
"The complete assurance I give to you while standing in this historic square is that I will not do anything that would undermine the nation's pillars such as its long-standing 100 percent Muslim country status, the independence of its citizens and the identity of Maldivians," the President said.
President Muizzu said every action he takes and every decision he makes is aimed at ensuring the nation's strength, stability, safety and security.
"It is for this noble purpose. With the noble joy and certainty of providing a more developed life for our citizens," said President Muizzu while assuring he would not undermine the pillars of Maldivian nationalism.

He went on to say that Maldivians triumphed on Victory Day for the sake of freedom. He said that those who were martyred on 3rd November 1988 did not want any harm to come to Maldives and that their purpose was to maintain this paradise of peace.
"They did not want to compromise the honor and dignity of our 100 percent Islamic nation. Every fighter, particularly those who sacrificed their lives on Victory Day, left behind stories that we must remember. They had their beloved children and their beloved nation in mind, fighting for a brighter future for their families and the promise of a safer nation," the President said.

President Muizzu said the martyrs had fought with their loved ones and their country in mind, including the happiness of their families, the marriages they had yet to begin and the sand of their homeland.
'Every martyr chose Maldives. The Maldivian nation. They prioritized the country and its independence. Peace and safety. Future development and progress," said President Muizzu while remembering the martyrs of 3rd November 1988.
The President said the martyrs' sacrifices had enabled Maldivians to live in peace, stand proudly under the Maldivian flag and enjoy moments with their children and families. He said the opportunity to enjoy such blessings was made possible by the martyrs' selfless sacrifices.

"Loyalty to the nation will always bring blessings, while betrayal of the country will inevitably lead to misfortune. This is the clear truth that this Republic Square reminds the nation of," President Muizzu said, referring to incidents at Republic Square throughout the country's history that threatened the Maldives' independence.
