Former Male' City Council member for the Maafannu South constituency Mohamed Aiman Ismail has been arrested over allegations of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

Police spokesperson Ahmed Shiyam told Mihaaru News that Aiman was arrested on Tuesday.

Shiyam said most of the investigation had been completed and that police were in discussions with the Prosecutor General’s Office to finalize the case.

He said police would follow the court’s decision on Aiman’s remand.

Further details of the case have not been disclosed.

Former Foreign Minister and Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid has also been arrested over allegations of sexually assaulting a minor. He was remanded in custody for 30 days.
