"The governing bodies of Malé City Group of Hospitals (MCGH), Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, Gan Regional Hospital, Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital and Addu Equatorial Hospital have been dissolved under the decision," according to the President's Office's website.

President Muizzu said last week that this decision was made on the basis of strengthening management in the healthcare sector, improving quality of service and lowering expenditure.

The President said the restructuring would eliminate repetitions in the healthcare sector and strengthen management. He added that all government tertiary hospitals, including those being developed to provide tertiary-level services, would be brought under a single network through the new group.
