Due to long-overdue rent payable to HDC, the lease agreement for the land operating the famous Riveli Beach Club and Restaurant in Hulhumalé was terminated today, and instructions were issued not to conduct any business at the venue.

In a statement issued by HDC, it said that the commercial agreement made with Solaris Hospitality Private Limited has been brought to an end effective today, and the land has been brought under HDC's custody.

"Therefore, we inform that following the decision to repossess this land starting today, Solaris Hospitality Private Limited will not be able to conduct any type of commercial transaction or provide any service at Lot No. 10877 of Hulhumalé," the statement read.

An official from HDC told "Mihaaru" today that Solaris owes approximately five million Rufiyaa to the corporation to date.

"None of the required CSR initiatives have been carried out either. Even when letters were sent under the agreement, only a portion of the rent was paid. From the beginning, rent has not been paid regularly," he said.

According to the official, although HDC leadership has been assumed by various managements across different previous governments, it is noted that the company running Riveli Restaurant in Hulhumalé Ruggando 1 was left without much intervention despite failing to pay rent in accordance with the agreement.

HDC stated in its announcement that the agreement with the company running Riveli Restaurant was terminated within the agreement's procedures, having provided all necessary notices and numerous opportunities under the agreement due to long-overdue rent.

"We also assure that this corporation makes such decisions after providing the broadest possible opportunity to businesses established in Hulhumalé to provide services to the public," HDC said.

"This corporation's objective is to always facilitate the most favorable opportunities possible for businesses operating in Hulhumalé."

The issue of parties failing to regularly pay rent owed to HDC has escalated, with complaints raised over many days. This includes rent for certain businesses as well as flats.
