Two individuals charged in the case involving the loss of MVR 28.3 million worth of diesel sold by FSM to MPL have been found guilty, sentenced to prison, and ordered to pay MVR 6.7 million to the state in compensation.

A case surfaced involving employees of MPL and FSM participating in the loss of millions of liters of fuel sought for MPL between the years 2018–2020. After this fraud was exposed and investigated, several employees were also dismissed. However, the money lost by MPL in this fraud has not been recovered to date.

In connection with the case, the state pressed charges against Mohamed Aiman, Vaaruge, S. Feydhoo, and a Bangladeshi national named Sojib. The charges brought against them were embezzlement and knowingly producing a forged document with the intent to deceive someone.

Aiman was the Chief Manager of MPL's Procurement Department at the time this fraud was carried out. He signed delivery notes stating that fuel not received by MPL had been received. Showing that a total of 783,100 liters of fuel had been received, MVR 6.7 million equivalent to it was paid to FSM.

Sojib was employed as a fuel bowser driver for FSM. He worked to show that he had delivered the diesel specified in 119 delivery notes prepared as part of the fuel delivery transactions to MPL.

Determining that these offenses were proven against both individuals, the Criminal Court sentenced them to eight years in prison in the embezzlement case. Additionally, both individuals were ordered to pay MVR 6.7 million, which is the value of the embezzled fuel, to the state as compensation.

In the charge of producing forged documents, Aiman and Sojib were sentenced to nine months and 18 days in prison.

When Aiman submitted the case of his dismissal over this fraud to the Employment Tribunal, it ordered that he be reinstated and compensated. However, the High Court decided that Aiman does not need to be reinstated, awarded MVR 1 to Aiman as compensation, and ordered MPL to pay it within seven days.
