The Housing Ministry has published the points awarded to applicants for 100 housing units in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo with the complaints window being opened as well.

The ministry said the verification process for allocating the government-built housing units had been completed.

Applicants can check their points through the Hiyaa portal and submit complaints through the same platform.

Complaints must be submitted by 2pm on 16 November. The ministry said submissions made through other channels or after the deadline would not be accepted.

The allocation of the housing units has been disputed, with responsibility for evaluating applications and distributing the flats previously assigned to the Thulhaadhoo Council.

Under the previous administration, the then Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure opened applications for the units and handed responsibility for assessing applicants and allocating the flats to the council.

A case was subsequently filed at the Thulhaadhoo Magistrate’s Court challenging the provisional list published by the council on 9 October 2023 under an amended regulation.

The court ruled that the allocation should follow the ministry’s recommendations and the regulation published on 11 May 2022, finding that the earlier rules had been changed unlawfully.

The housing units have remained unallocated amid the dispute and other issues. The Housing Ministry has now taken over the allocation process.
