A tourist who visited K. Maafushi has donated financial assistance towards repairing mosques on the island.
Maafushi Council President Ali Shamoon said that a Funda Ozkucu, a Turkish muslim visiting the island with her family, had met with the council and discussed how she could best contribute towards the island's community.
Ozkucu ultimately decided to extend financial aid for the repair of mosques in Maafushi. She has handed over the contribution to the council before flying back home.
Shamoon said that the funds will be used to resolve electrical issues in the island's three mosques, and other such repairs.
"We will spend this money on attending issues at the mosque that remain to be fixed," he said.
Maafushi was the first island where local tourism took root. The island sees hundreds of visitors arriving daily.
The council said that tourists have provided aid to the island in various ways previously as well.
