Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has decided to take legal action against the owner of a FDC flat in Hulhumale' Phase 2 who refused to pay outstanding rent, while the owner of a second flat ordered to be vacated has agreed to settle the arrears.

FDC ordered the occupants of two flats to vacate their units on 14 October after their rent payments fell behind the terms of their agreements. FDC gave them 15 days to leave and suspended their portal access.

FDC Managing Director Handhan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that the owner of one flat had agreed to pay the outstanding rent in full.

However, the owner of the second flat refused to pay, prompting FDC to decide to file a case in court to recover possession of the unit, he said.

Hamdhan previously said the two flats had been ordered to be vacated because their occupants had failed to pay rent since moving in.

Occupancy at Amaan Towers began earlier this year, but some residents have not been paying rent on time. Hamdhan said residents with outstanding payments had begun contacting FDC to arrange payment.

He added that FDC would allow some residents to pay in instalments, acknowledging that settling the full amount at once could be difficult for some households.

Some recipients of the 4,000 flats developed by FDC have also failed to pay rent regularly. The situation has encouraged some recipients of Hiyaa flats to withhold rent, as no action has been taken by the government against them.
