Major General (Retd) Moosa Ali Jaleel has been appointed yesterday as the Director General of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre.

The appointment of Moosa Ali Jaleel to the Counter-Terrorism Centre has been confirmed by Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu).

Moosa Ali Jaleel previously served as Minister of Defence and National Security in 2015. From 2014 to 2015, he served as High Commissioner of Maldives to Pakistan. Earlier, he served as Chief of Defence Force from 2008 to 2012. He built his career in the military over 32 years of service.

Moosa Ali Jaleel also contested for Male' Mayor post under a ruling PNC ticket in last April's Local Council Elections, although he did not secure the seat.

On Victory Day in November 2024, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu awarded the Grand Order of Military Honour to Moosa Ali Jaleel, in recognition of the courage and bravery displayed in the 1988 coup attempt.

The post of Director General at the Counter-Terrorism Centre was most recently filled by Major General (Retd) Wais Waheed. It is unclear as of yet whether Wais Waheed resigned from the post, or was dismissed.
