The police have stated that 15 people were arrested from the opposition protests on Wednesday night and that they are still in custody.

Several MP’s and opposition protestors were arrested during the rally on Majeedhee Magu, the main road in the capital Male.

Superintendent of police Ahmed Shifan told Mihaaru that they are investigating the cases of 15 people who were arrested. One person was arrested for throwing crude oil at a police officer and the rest are being charged for obstructing the duty of police officers.

The police claim that the actions of the protestors were a nuisance to the public an d requested the public not to take part in such gatherings.

The opposition is rumored to be gearing up for a major gathering on March 16 and the police have already stated that they will not allow such disruptions to the peace within Male.
