The International Zakat Conference 2026 (INZAC 2026), organized by the Maldives Zakat House, has begun today.

The one-day conference began this morning at the Islamic Center's Conference Hall. The conference was inaugurated with recitation of Quran by Acting Deputy Director General of the Maldives Zakat House Sheikh Moosa Muizz.

The conference is held so that scholars, policymakers, Islamic finance experts and finance practitioners can come together to hold discussions on how to strengthen the Zakat system and find solutions to modern social and economic challenges. This is the third edition of the INZAC.

Zakat House stated on their website that the conference is taking place with the main topic of "Resilient Foundations: Deciphering Vulnerability, Economic Impact, and Collaborative Safety Nets in Modern Societies", with the main aim being to identify notable vulnerable situations, foster the connection between communities and to determine sustainable paths in making those with the right to zakat stand on their own two feet.

The Zakat House's Strategic Action Plan, "SAP 2026-2028", was launched during the conference's opening ceremony.

The SAP was inaugurated by Guest of Honor Commissioner General of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) Fathimath Ameeza.

The SAP outlines a three-year plan to strengthen zakat administration, increase zakat acceptance and define the industries that should be prioritized when promoting productive zakat projects, the institution said.

INZAC 2026 has three sessions, with each session having its own formal address and panel discussion, said Zakat House.

Topics of discussion in the sessions include the effects of financial strain on family stability, the importance of coordination between institutions when aiding vulnerable families and ways to make those who receive zakat into people who can stand on their own two feet and become contributing members of society.
