The re-registration period for publications was extended today.
The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) announced the re-registration for media six months ago under the "News Agencies and Magazine Registration Regulations", which was formed under the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act.
However, an announcement made today by the MMBC reads that they decided to give an additional three months for media to re-register. The new deadline is now January 2027.
In a social media post made by the MMBC on Sunday, they revealed that 162 forms had been submitted for registration. This includes 94 forms for re-registration and 68 forms for new registrations.
MMBC has stated before that media that do not register within the time frame will have their registrations revoked.
