A request has been filed to the Committee on National Security Services (241) whereby the senior officials of enforcement agencies are to be produced to the 241 Committee regarding the case where two marine vessels under the control of Customs that illegally entered Maldives had gone adrift due to their shared anchor rode breaking, ran aground onto the Male' reef and slammed into the Sinamale' Bridge.

The two vessels went adrift at around 10pm on 10th September after the anchor rode broke in bad weather.

Hanimaadhoo Constituency MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa filed the request to the 241 Committee to summon the police and MNDF in connection to the case and some other cases.

During today’s committee meeting, North Maafannu MP Mohamed Nazim and Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) backed Moosa’s proposal.

The committee meeting was held in secret after a certain point, and the committee's decision regarding Moosa's submission is unclear.

While Moosa submitted a request to produce senior officials from the police and MNDF regarding some cases where the lives of some police and MNDF personnel were lost and the boats that illegally entered Maldives, Nazim filed to produce the Commissioner General of Customs in connection to these cases. Thoriq was in favor of both requests.

"We are talking about people's lives here, so there are certain steps that had to have been taken in the cases where some police and MNDF personnel died," said Moosa during the committee meeting.

He went on to say that the family of the police and MNDF personnel who died in the incidents need to be given justice.

Nazim said the 241 Committee was responsible for identifying the actions taken by relevant agencies in response to the incidents raised by Moosa. He added that information about yesterday’s fire in Sh. Funadhoo also needed to be clarified.

"I am in favor of both these issues we have in front of us today. I believe that these are very special cases," Nazim said.

Thoriq stated that while some police and MNDF personnel have died in marine incidents, they need to see what resources the police and MNDF were lacking that led to those incidents and that he supports producing the senior officials of both agencies to the committee.
