Sh. Funadhoo Hospital has said that they are currently treating 16 patients who sustained varying levels of injuries through the fire that broke out at the island's petrol shed this morning.

A major fire broke out at 7am today at the privately owned 'Faiymini' petrol shed in Sh. Funadhoo. Police and MNDF are working with Marriott Vangaru Resort fire fighters to contain the blaze.

An official from the Funadhoo Hospital said that as of now, 16 individuals are receiving treatment for varying levels of injuries caused in the fire. This includes four women and 12 men.

The official said that six individuals sustained burn injuries, another six are being treated for smoke inhalation, while four were brought unconscious.

Two airport firefighters who were amongst the response team are also under treatment for smoke inhalation.

"Those who sustained burn injuries had been standing away from the blaze. When the tank exploded, fragments were blown about 200 feet away, it seems. These people sustained injuries then," the official said.

He, however, confirmed that no serious injuries have been reported.
