The youth arrested yesterday in a case involving calls to set fire to buildings and vessels has been accused of terrorism and remanded for an additional 12 days today.

Ali Jumaan, Kuhlhavagge, HA. Baarah, was arrested under a court order on suspicion of encouraging and calling via social media to set fire to certain buildings and vessels in the Maldives, as well as to loot a shop.

In a post made on X last Monday, Jumaan, 25, said that people cannot sit by and watch the government give land to Jews, and that buildings and vessels must be set on fire, unrest created, and protests held.

The post also called to loot the Red Wave shop of Ahmed Saleem, MP for the Eydhafushi constituency and Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis.

According to the remand order issued by the Criminal Court following his arrest in connection with the case, police are leveling terrorism allegations against Jumaan.

In addition to Jumaan, former First Lieutenant of MNDF and former Deputy Minister of this administration Zihan Hassan was also arrested in a case involving calls to set fire to the President's Office, the People's Majlis building, and the Supreme Court, and was remanded for 15 days last Wednesday.

Zihan deleted the post an hour after posting on social media questioning why fire was not being set to the buildings housing the offices of the three branches of the state.
