HDh. Nolhivaranfaru and several other islands in the north have seen extensive damage in the ongoing heavy rains.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that relentless downpours since last night have caused flood water to flow into 95 percent of houses in Nolhivaranfaru.
Many of these houses have also faced damage to household goods and appliances, and several people in the more affected houses have been temporarily relocated to other shelters, NDMA said.

Citing the Nolhivaranfaru Council, NDMA said that trenches have been dug in five areas of the island, and pumps are being used for dewatering. Despite this, the flooding remains heavy and the council has now appealed for assistance from MNDF.
Several other islands in the north are also facing severe damage and loss due to the torrential rains.

Kulhudhuffushi has had relentless rainfall since last night, with over 190 houses reporting flooding, NDMA said
In Kulhudhuffushi, the council, in collaboration with MNDF, Police and Red Crescent are working on dewatering and checking on the status of residences.

In Lh. Naifaru, two houses have reported being affected by flooding, and the council is working on dewatering and placing sandbags to stop the flood from flowing into more homes.
NDMA stated that they are continuing to work with the councils of islands affected by the rain and providing humanitarian aid where needed.
