Hulhumalé Hospital stated tonight that notification sent to staff stating that the night shift allowance was reduced occurred due to a technical issue.

In connection with a change brought to the Civil Service Benefit Allowance last August and the Health Service Benefit this month, Hulhumalé Hospital reduced the night shift duty allowance for nurses, doctors, and lab technicians from MVR 100 to MVR 60.

Salaries were disbursed to staff last month with that allowance reduced.

An official from the hospital told "Mihaaru" that the issue arose through something that occurred during the process of changing Human Resource Department software. Therefore, he stated that work is underway to rectify that.

The official stated that the portion deducted from the night shift allowance will be returned to staff.

Because civil servants' overtime pay is limited to 10 percent, the Pay Commission introduces various allowances to compensate for that portion.

According to the Civil Service Sector Benefit published by the Pay Commission on August 16, MVR 60 will be given for work performed between 12 midnight and 6 AM, and MVR 40 for work performed from 6 AM to 12 midnight.

However, under the Health Sector Benefit implemented prior to that, MVR 100 was given for night shifts. Even though a new allowance was recently introduced under the name Civil Service Sector Benefit, technical staff in the health sector will receive allowances under the previous policy.
