Velana International Airport (VIA) has announced that they are shifting check in services for ten airlines to Terminal 2 for the tourist peak season.

VIA operator MACL said in a statement that in preparation for winter, check in services for ten international airlines will be shifted to Terminal 2 from Sunday onwards.

MACL said that these arrangements will provide ease for passengers with the extra check in counters and additional space, preventing overcrowding and slow service during the peak season.

The airlines which will operate out of Terminal 2 during peak season are Italy's Neos, Russia's Aeroflot, Bangladesh's US-Bangla Airlines, Uzbekistan's Centrum Air, Russia's Azur Air, Siberia's S7 Airlines, Armenia's Shirak Avia, Kuwait Airways, Bulgaria's GullivAir and French Bee.

Passengers on these airlines are directed to go straight to Terminal 2 for check in. MACL advised passengers to come to the airport ahead to ensure sufficient time is there to complete check in and other travel requirements.

Terminal 2 was upgraded and opened for service in February. The terminal, previously used for international flights before the new terminal was opened, has since been used for domestic travel.

Terminal 2 has 27 check in counters, new luggage belts, food outlets, prayer rooms, and kids' play areas.

MACL stated that they remain committed to providing convenient, peaceful and pleasant travel experiences to passengers as Maldives' aviation and tourism sector continues to grow.
