MET predicts that rainy conditions will persist across much of the country for the next three days as well. MET said in a statement that the Southwest Monsoon has strengthened over the Maldives due to low pressure areas over the southwest Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, along with a circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal.
This has led to an increase in convective activity over western Maldives, which is now moving across the country, MET said.
Besides MET, MNDF has also cautioned seafarers to stay informed of up to date weather predictions and take necessary precautions. MNDF urged seafarers to inform necessary contacts of travel plans prior to traveling. They also directed vessels to ensure all necessary equipment is on board, such as life jackets, communication means, and dewatering pumps. They also warned supply vessels against bearing more load than advisable.
