Services at Vilimale' Hospital have been temporarily relocated to the Amaan Hiyaa building to make way for construction of a new 112-bed hospital.

The services were moved today to the former children’s shelter in Vilimale', allowing the existing hospital site to be cleared for construction.

Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Haleem previously told Mihaaru News that the temporary facility would be modified before services were transferred. He said existing hospital services would continue to be available at the new location.

The new hospital will be built on the site of the existing facility as part of efforts to expand healthcare services in Vilimale'.

The government is developing healthcare infrastructure in the area ahead of the completion of the Thilamale' Bridge and further settlement in the region.

The next step in the project is to appoint a contractor and begin construction.

The new hospital is planned to include;

  • Outpatient and emergency services,
  • Dedicated areas for diagnosis and treatment,
  • Medical wards and administrative offices,
  • Medical equipment and furniture required to deliver tertiary-level healthcare services.
