The Islamic ministry on Monday stated that the ministry is working to present the funds collected for the Rohingya Muslims, to the Bangladesh Red Crescent. The funds, amounting to MVR 1.8 million, were collected at various events organized by the Islamic ministry last year.

The statement was issued late Monday night after media reports had come in speculating the whereabouts of the raised funds.

According to the statement, the administrative work of the process has been completed. When inquired by the media, the foreign ministry however had stated that they had no knowledge of such transactions to the Bangladesh Red Crescent.

In early November 2017, Islamic minister Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Bagir had stated that the raised funds would be presented to the Bangladesh Red Crescent within a week's time.

Local media outlet Raajje TV had also raised funds of USD 500,000 for the Rohingya Muslims. The funds raised have now been handed over to the Bangladesh Red Crescent.
