A Business Forum has been planned to be held during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to Pakistan.
The President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are expected to leave for Pakistan tomorrow, on invitation from Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said today that while President Muizzu is in the country until Thursday, the Pakistan-Maldives Business Forum will be held to further strengthen trade and investment ties between the countries.
A senior official of the Maldives' government said that the forum will be attended by approximately 300 business representatives. The government will be sharing information about business and investment opportunities in the Maldives at this forum, they said.
President Muizzu, as well as Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, will deliver remarks at the forum.
During the visit, leaders of the two countries are also expected to sign several agreements and MoUs spanning across multiple areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, health, education, climate change, tourism, civil aviation and defence.
High-level talks are expected to be held by the President with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.
This will be the first official visit to Pakistan from a Maldivian Head of State in over a decade. Prior to this, the most recent official visit to Pakistan was by former President Abdulla Yameen in 2015.
This year also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Pakistan.
