Ahmed Fairish, who was allegedly harassing the neighborhood of Henveiru, has been remanded by the Criminal Court for 15 days.

He was arrested for the alleged acts of inciting fear, damaging property, acts of violence and obstruction of justice.

He has been remanded from today until 2nd November.

The court order reads he was sentenced due to the possibility he may pose a threat to society.

Fairish has been arrested previously for threatening individuals, damaging property and various other cases. Today's court order reads that he has denied all charges against him.

Fairish was arrested after the Head of Marketing and Strategy at the Bank of Maldives (BML) Mohamed Saeed began a hunger strike yesterday, which resulted in the matter gaining attention. He began the strike as harassment from Fairish had escalated, with no action being taken against him. Saeed said he had no choice but to go on the strike as all case submissions against Fairish to every institution had not seen any progress.

He went on to say that incidents involving Fairish close to his area of residence, near Kashimaa Hingun and Dhoohimeri Magu, have been going on for some time, with many people in the neighborhood complaining about Fairish.

He said complaints had been lodged with police over alleged harassment of pedestrians and motorists over the last year and a half.

As he was assured the case against Fairish will see full cooperation from administrations, Saeed concluded his hunger strike earlier this afternoon.
