The Higher Education Ministry has opened up applications for over 900 scholarships aimed at training Allied Health Professionals.
Various technical positions within the health sector, aside from doctors and nurses, fall within the Allied Health Professionals category. It covers trained healthcare workers who provide diagnostic, technical, therapeutic, pharmaceutical and direct patient care services.
The Higher Education Ministry has said that applications are now open for 955 scholarships for Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, and Master's Degree levels. Applications can be submitted via 'Kuri Portal' until December 31.
Training 1,500 Allied Health Professionals during his term is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Under this, training for 250 therapists was offered early this year. The current 955 scholarships include training for therapists as well, alongside several other specialties which fall into the Allied Health Professionals category.
The Higher Education Ministry said that these scholarships are being offered for the purpose of training up skilled professionals to work in the country's health sector.
The ministry said the initiative also aims to increase the participation of trained locals in the health sector, expand employment opportunities for locals, and reduce reliance on foreign expertise.
