Tenants seek to to settle dues after FDC orders two flats to be vacated

Hamdhaan said the action had prompted other tenants who had received notices over unpaid rent to contact the corporation to arrange payment. Most of those tenants had fallen behind by one or two months, he said.

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has ordered the eviction of tenants from two flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2 over unpaid rent, prompting other tenants who have received payment notices to contact the company to settle their dues.

FDC Managing Director Hamdhaan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that 15-day notices to vacate had been issued to the occupants of two units at Amaan Towers on Wednesday.

The tenants had not paid rent since moving into the flats, Hamdhaan said. Although they had been given several opportunities to meet their obligations under the tenancy agreements, the agreements were eventually cancelled and the tenants were ordered to vacate the units within 15 days.

Their access to the FDC online portal has also been suspended.

Hamdhaan said the action had prompted other tenants who had received notices over unpaid rent to contact the corporation to arrange payment. Most of those tenants had fallen behind by one or two months, he said.

He added that FDC would allow some tenants to pay in instalments if they were unable to settle their outstanding rent in a single payment.

“Many people who have been sent notices for not paying rent are contacting us to pay their rent. In addition, if they find it difficult to pay in one lump sum, we will arrange for them to pay in instalments,” Hamdhaan said.

FDC has previously said that 564 flats were not paying rent regularly.

The corporation manages around 4,000 flats built in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Some tenants have reportedly continued to withhold rent, partly because there have been no significant consequences for non-payment by occupants of Hiyaa flats in the same area.

However, FDC’s tenant agreements allow the corporation to repossess flats if rent is not paid as required.

Amaan Towers began receiving residents earlier this year, but some tenants have failed to pay rent regularly, Hamdhaan said.
