Pension Office CEO Yazmeed Mohamed stated yesterday that around MVR 100 million has not been paid to the Pension Fund by those who are registered and that the office will work to recover the funds within a year.
The CEO said this during the opening ceremony of the "Three Generation Walk" (3Gen Walk), organized by the office and held at HDh. Hanimaadhoo.
He went on to say that those who are required to take part in the Retirement Pension Scheme have not done so, but the office is working to input them into their pension system.
During yesterday's ceremony, the CEO highlighted that MVR 30 billion has been deposited into the Pension Fund over the last 17 years. This includes contributions from members of the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme (MRPS) and investment profits.
However, Yazmeed said that doubling that figure to MVR 60 billion over the next five years is one of their biggest aims. To achieve this, the CEO said the management system of the Pension Office has been streamlined by working proactively to find additional investment opportunities so that the Pension Fund can be increased and benefits secured for members in a sustainable manner.
He highlighted the cooperation and aid from the Hanimaadhoo Council, institutions and residents of the island in organizing an event as important as the "3Gen Walk" which resulted in success, and expressed his gratitude to them as well.
The purpose of hosting this event in collaboration with Hanimaadhoo Council was to increase financial awareness, promote a healthier lifestyle, and to establish an environment where finances are secured, invested and increase awareness among families so that they can prepare for retirement, said the Pension Office. They also said that the activity facilitated an opportunity where families and the community as a whole could gather in one place and spend quality time together.
