Ibrahim Nazeem, who was dismissed from the post of Managing Director at Road Development Corporation (RDC) yesterday, has been appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Sports. He has worked at the Sports Ministry previously as well.

Nazeem was dismissed from RDC because the company is slated for liquidation. In the interim, management of RDC has been temporarily handed over to DCP (Retired) Ahmed Saudi, who currently serves as Managing Director at MTCC.

The government has previously announced in September that after RDC is liquidated, its work will be transferred under MTCC. RDC was established six years ago to oversee road development work across the atolls.

Nazeem's earlier tenure at the Youth and Sports Ministry was during the administration of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. He spent 17 years at the ministry, filling various positions over the years.

Nazeem, who has built a career in sports, is also currently the Vice President of Victory Sports Club. He was also the first South Asian international beach volleyball referee.

He completed the beach volleyball international referee course in 1996, following which he served as a referee on world tour.

Nazeem has also previously served as a State Minister at the Construction Ministry, and Deputy Minister at the Housing Ministry.
