Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu stated that explaining to students the daily burdens teachers bear to look after their affairs is the responsibility of parents.

The Minister made this statement last Monday at a ceremony held to mark the conclusion of the speech and debate competitions organized by the Maldives National University Students' Union (MNUSU), specifically for schools and institutions in Addu and Fuvahmulah.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, the minister said teachers bear the responsibility of caring for and educating around 90,000 students who attend school every day. The minister stressed that parents must help children understand and appreciate the efforts teachers make on their behalf.

"Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala (has) honored us humans. One of the most fundamental aspects of that honor is having intellect, and having the ability to communicate based on that intellect," the Minister stated.

The Minister further stated that in a civilized society, the right path can be reached by bringing forth diverse ideas and thoughts, and that every moment of disagreement is not a time to communicate disrespectfully.

Ismail also stated that even when an incident occurs in schools, the responsibility should be to shape thinking through patience, in collaboration with institutions, heads, and school teachers, in a manner that ensures such an incident is not repeated a second time. The Minister also urged making this a resolve.
