Kaashidhoo Council has decided to set aside a one hectare plot on the island for the 5 Million Tree Project, a government initiative that falls within their policies.
The plot being set aside was publicized via an announcement signed today by Kaashidhoo Council President Sobah Mohamed.
The Kaashidhoo Council discussed a letter sent by the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources during their 20th General Meeting. The letter was sent requesting a plot in Kaashidhoo to conduct the 5 Million Tree Project.
After the discussion was held and as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu determined that Kaashidhoo would be one of the islands where the 5 Million Tree Project would take place, the council decided to allocate one hectare of the "agroforestry" fields included in the Land Use Plan.
The 5 Million Tree Project is the biggest government project meant to protect the environment and to revive Maldives' beauty.
President Muizzu inaugurated the project on 5th June 2024, World Environment Day.
Under the 5 Million Tree Project, more than one million trees have been planted across various islands.
