Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Vice President and MP for Baarah constituency Ibrahim Shujau has said that if there are any reservations or concerns regarding the Eagle Hills project in Rasmale', these can be openly discussed to find a resolution. However, opposing the project in its entirety is simply a political stance, he said.

Speaking in today's parliament sitting, Shujau noted that opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson, former President Mohamed Nasheed, has also publicly stated that the project is favourable in principle, and asserted that he believes this is the stance of the party. Shujau said that politicians must be first in line to welcome major investments that come to the country.

"If we have any concerns about it, we can speak to the relevant people, hold discussions and identify what the issues are. Opposing the entire investment and presenting the entire thing as a bad investment is nothing more than a political statement," Shujau said.

Although today's parliament debate was on the bill on seizure of criminal proceeds, several members spoke for and against the Rasmale' project.

The government is facing the strongest criticism against the Rasmale' project from former President Abdulla Yameen and his party, People's National Front (PNF).

Yameen publicly posted on X yesterday, criticizing the project. His remarks received responses from PNC Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusan.
