A medical centre has opened in Fuvahmulah City in memory of Sadha Saudullah, a six-year-old girl who died in 2021 after being given the wrong injection at Fuvahmulah Hospital.

The Fuvahmulah Medical Centre was officially opened to the public yesterday by the family of Sadha, whose death was found to involve negligence by the hospital, according to the Ministry of Health.

Sadha’s father, Saudullah Ahmed, described the opening as a special and emotional day, saying the centre was a dream inspired by his love for his daughter.

“A dream born of love and memories has come true today. This medical centre will provide quality health services to the people of Fuvahmulah,” Saudullah said in a Facebook post.

He said the centre was not only a place to provide healthcare but also a tribute to his daughter, adding that her memory would live on through the services provided to others.

The Ministry of Health’s review of Sadha’s death identified 21 issues in the treatment she received.

According to the review, the doctors and nurses who treated her did not properly examine her medical history, and her underlying condition was not identified.

The review also found that Sadha was taken to the emergency room but that the medical officer administered medication without examining her. The doctor submitted a report to the Vinavi portal the following day stating that the child had been examined.

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives also found negligence in the case and said the family could seek compensation through the courts.
