MTCC said they will begin pouring asphalt on the third segment of Ameenee Magu this week as part of the project to repair the road in Male'.

Work on the third segment of Ameenee Magu, which is from Izzudheen Magu until Koaru Kendi Hingun, started on Sunday.

MTCC stated the leveling of the Aggregate Base Course (ABC) is set to be completed by tomorrow.

Asphalt work will begin this week after the leveling is done, with MTCC saying they will begin drawing road markings next week.

MTCC was given the work to repair Ameenee Magu in June 2026 as some parts of the road had bumps and potholes, with the asphalt being completely removed for repair.

The stretch of road from the Voice of Maldives (Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu) building to the park near Dharumavantha Hospital has been repaired and reopened to the public.

The work to modernize Ameenee Magu was handed over to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government, with the work commencing in July 2022. The project was split into phases but did not see completion when the government's term came to an end, with the final phase having been completed in early 2024 and opened to the public.

Parts of the road that had been asphalted had degraded heavily, with some parts being repaired last year. Bumps in the asphalt have posed risk to motorists along that stretch of road for some time now.

MVR 84 million from the State budget was spent on laying asphalt and redeveloping Ameenee Magu.
