Kaafu Atoll Huraa Council has opened applications for 150 land plots from the island’s reclaimed area following changes to the land allocation regulations.
Each plot measures 1,500 square feet.
The council said previously submitted applications would remain valid, but all applications would be assessed under the revised regulations.
Application forms will be issued until Thursday, with applications accepted until 12:00 noon on the same day.
Applicant criteria
- Applicants must be Maldivian citizens aged at least 18 at the time the land allocation was announced.
- They must also meet conditions relating to existing or previously held land and housing, including requirements to relinquish certain land or property rights.
- Applicants who have previously relinquished state-owned or private land, part of a plot, an apartment in a multi-owner building or a housing unit provided under a government housing scheme must meet additional conditions.
- These include a requirement that the property was relinquished more than two years ago, or, if it was sold, that at least 10 years have passed since the sale.
- Applicants must also agree to relinquish any inherited share of land in a state-owned plot in accordance with the Land Act.
The council said applicants must submit all supporting documents with their forms. These may include documents relating to previously owned and relinquished property, a National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) document confirming disability status where applicable, and a marriage certificate for married applicants.
Plots will be allocated according to the points awarded under the regulations, with applicants receiving the highest scores given priority. If applicants receive equal scores, the winner will be determined by drawing lots.
