Police have begun using the "SmartDraw" software in order to investigate road accidents.
Police wrote on their website that they have officially begun using the "SmartDraw" investigation software so they can further strengthen and expedite road accident investigations, and to increase the validity of investigations and raise professional standards.
The software was introduced and is being used under the Traffic police and Road Management's Traffic Investigation Function, said police.
According to the police, "SmartDraw" is a user-friendly software specifically designed to formulate diagrams of accident scenes and to easily draw up sketches.
- The software comes designed with a layout of different roads, intersections, t-junctions and straight roads.
- It also includes various ready-made important symbols of key elements needed for the investigation, vehicles, motorcycles, traffic signs and traffic lights.
- The software allows Google Maps and satellite images to be input into the software for the preparation of diagrams so that the complete view of the scene of the accident can be displayed in an authentic manner.
Police stated this was an important step taken to modernize road accident investigation stages, improve the quality of investigative reports, strengthen evidence documentation and expedite operational processes.
Police said they are also working to introduce modern technology and new resources in order to further strengthen the services they provide across Maldives.
While the accident rate in the Male' region has risen drastically, there have been more than 2,300 reported cases of accidents this year as of now.
