President pledges to protect girls’ rights and empower future leaders

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting girls’ rights and expanding opportunities for them, saying investment in girls is essential to building a more equitable and prosperous future.

In a message in a post on X to mark the International Day of the Girl, President Muizzu said the Maldives joined the international community in promoting and protecting the rights and aspirations of girls worldwide.

He said the government remained committed to developing progressive policies and creating opportunities for girls and young women to fulfil their potential and become future leaders who contribute to national development.

The President also stressed the importance of providing girls with safe and supportive environments, calling for a collective effort involving families, communities and other stakeholders.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also marked the occasion, celebrating the strength, ambition and potential of girls in the Maldives and around the world.

She described girls as leaders, innovators and changemakers whose voices and talents help build stronger and more resilient societies.

First Lady Sajidha said empowering girls could transform individual lives and shape the nation’s future.

She also praised Maldivian girls and young women for their contributions to education, public service, entrepreneurship, sports and community leadership.
