Police have said in Criminal Court today that during the anti-narcotics operation carried out yesterday, officers found drugs out in the open in the room occupied by the three movie stars who were subsequently arrested.

Through the operation carried out in Vilimale' yesterday, police arrested movie stars Ahmed Azmeel, Ismail Jumaih and Mohamed Vishal (Roman), alongside Azmeel's brother Shaahil Mohamed.

All four are being accused of drug use, sales, and trafficking.

The Criminal Court today placed all four individuals in remand in custody for 15 days.

As per the remand order, Police had forced entry into the room the four had been occupying. Officers who went to the scene are cited as saying that drugs were seen kept openly on a table inside the room.

At the remand hearing, Police noted that the preliminary weight of the drugs discovered at the scene reach the legal threshold for trafficking charges.

All the suspects, excluding Jumaih, have prior arrest records.

Under the current Drugs Act, if the charges are proven against them, they face a life sentence, extended until death. Although a life sentence was previously capped at 25 years, this has been revised in the new law. The law also takes away the possibility of pardons and parole for such offences.
