Home Minister Ali Ihusaan stated today that the issue regarding the delay in dispatching passport booklets by the German company that manufactures the Maldives' passport booklets has now been resolved, and that passport issuance procedures will be brought back to normal starting this coming Sunday.

The delay in shipping the passport booklets by the scheduled date occurred, according to Germany's Dermalog company, due to an issue encountered at the company's print-house.

Consequently, to prevent the stock of booklets in the Maldives from running out completely and to prioritize emergency situations, the issuance of passports under regular procedures was temporarily halted and special arrangements were established.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, Minister Ihusaan stated that the issue has been resolved, the stock of passport booklets will be brought to the Maldives over this weekend, and passports will begin to be issued under normal conditions starting next Sunday.

The minister stated that there are over 2,600 passports in the backlog, and clearing that backlog entirely will take about five days.

The minister stated that in the future as well, those applying for passports will receive the service without any difficulties.
