The MDP has decided to hold its National Council election in November, and the party made the election timeline public today.
With the term of the opposition MDP's National Council having expired, voting to elect a new council has been scheduled for the 27th of November.
Some individuals contesting for that council have already commenced their campaigning.
Opening up applications for the election has been scheduled from this coming Saturday until the 25th of October.
While a new basic charter for the party was passed at the MDP congress held last weekend, major changes have come to the composition of the National Council according to it.
How the National Council is composed according to the new basic charter:
- The party's Chairperson
- In the event of a party administration, the President
- In the event of a party administration, the Vice President
- The Deputy Chairpersons
- Members elected to the National Council from constituencies
- The President of Women's Wing and five members elected by that wing
- The President of the Youth Wing and five members elected by that wing
- The President of the Councilors Assembly and three Vice Presidents
- The President of the WDC Wing and three Vice Presidents
- Members of the Parliamentary Group
- Ministers belonging to the party included in the cabinet during a party administration
- Mayors of cities belonging to the party
