HA. Hoarafushi Council has announced they are seeking a company to run the Hoarafushi Cambridge International School.

Hoarafushi Council stated the announcement was made once two years ago and was awarded to Avid College, but the college let the project go due to a lack of financial flexibility.

The agreement where Avid College was awarded to operate the school was signed on 28th February 2023. The school opened with 8 employees and 47 students and began teaching when the 2024 academic year started.

Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Asfaam told Mihaaru News that even though Avid College was given the task to operate the school, the college informed the council that they would be unable to do so due to financial difficulties.

"The decision was made by Avid to let the project go due to their financial status. However, they said they will continue to operate the school until the current academic year ends. That is why we have put out the announcement once more," said Asfaam.

Hoarafushi Cambridge International School currently has 37 students, with a monthly fee of MVR 2,500.

According to the council's announcement on Sunday, they are looking for a company to run the international school at the council's school building on the island. Interested parties can now register their tenders and submit their estimates.

In order to register tenders, the council requests interested parties to register by clicking the following link before the deadline: https://forms.gle/jLj7CzqHVVvSm9aT9. The council also stated that those who register for the bid before the deadline will get the opportunity to submit their bids.

After interested parties register for the tender, the council has requested them to go to the council administration and submit their estimates.

The island council's school buildings were constructed with aid from entrepreneurs and MTCC.

The council has said previously that the purpose of operating an international school in Hoarafushi is to offer students from preschool to Key Stage 5 the opportunity to gain knowledge from modern education at the same level as the world's leading education systems with modern resources from the island itself.

The school has a playground, storage, public bathroom, four student bathrooms, three classrooms, principal's office, staff room and reception area.
