Feels-like temperatures across the country are significantly high this week.
As per records publicized by the MET Office, feels-like temperature has crossed 38 degrees Celsius at various intervals between last Sunday and today.
The hottest day observed within this timeframe was last Tuesday, when feels-like temperature in capital Male' reached 38.6 degrees Celsius. Last Sunday, feels-like temperature in Hanimaadhoo was at 38.5 degrees Celsius, while other areas recorded temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius.
At 11am today, feels-like temperature in Male' was at 38.2 degrees Celsius.
To date, Maldives experienced the highest feels-like temperature on April 1, 2024 in Male', at 48 degrees Celsius.
The MET Office stated in August that as El Nino strengthens over the Pacific Ocean, temperatures in Maldives will be higher than average over the next three months.
MET Office shared a chart showing the forecast until November. As per this, central Maldives (from Male' atoll to Thaa atoll) will experience higher than average rainfall in these three months. However, rainfall is expected to be lower than average in southern atolls.
Temperatures, however, are expected to be higher than average across the country, according to the MET Office.
