In a dangerous accident that occurred early this morning, the condition of two members of the same family has become serious, and they are currently receiving treatment in the ICU.

Five people sustained major injuries in a dangerous accident that occurred when a motorcycle driving dangerously against the flow of traffic on Nirolhu Magu in Hulhumalé late last night collided with another motorcycle.

Two of them are cousins belonging to the same family. Those two young men went out on a motorcycle last night for one of them to head home.

The two men are in serious condition after sustaining serious injuries when another motorcycle, travelling at high speed and against traffic on a one-way road, crashed into them.

One of their sisters stated on social media that while they were driving in accordance with the regulations, serious injuries were inflicted upon them due to the actions of a third party.

While one of them has suffered bleeding in the brain, another sister stated in a Facebook post that an emergency surgery is currently being performed on him. The family has requested prayers for them.

Reports also indicates that the other young man has sustained serious injuries to his face. He is also receiving treatment in the IGMH ICU.

The family has also stated that they are concerned that the police are proceeding with the investigation by treating this accident as a routine accident.

Police have stated that serious injuries were also sustained by all three individuals who were on the motorcycle driving at high speed against the one-way traffic in violation of regulations.

The person driving that stolen motorcycle is not a person who holds a valid driver's license. Furthermore, the amount of fines imposed on him previously for violating traffic regulations is close to MVR 100,000. 

It is known that the driver of the motorcycle is an individual with a major criminal record who has been arrested multiple times in connection with scam and theft cases. Before the accident occurred, he had been driving the motorcycle very dangerously against the one-way routes on the bridge highway and the streets of Hulhumalé.

The five people injured in this accident, which occurred around 3:00 AM last night, were first treated at Hulhumalé Hospital. However, all of them have now been transferred to IGMH for further treatment.
