Two Maldivians have been arrested in Thailand, Bangkok with a large amount of drugs via a special operation conducted by the Capital Metropolitan Police Division.
46-year-old Ali Rasheed and 34-year-old Mohamed Visam were arrested on Monday in connection to the case.
Thai media reported that the two Maldivians were arrested when the police conducted a special operation after receiving a report that there may be parcels filled with drugs that the two Maldivians sent to a cargo office in Bangkok's Pratunam region.

Reports say the cargo office refused to take the parcels due to a foul odor coming from them, which made the two Maldivians take the parcels back to the room they were staying in at the Sukhumvit region. When the police searched the room and the parcels, they found 2.37 kilograms of crystal meth (ice) and around 10 kilograms of cannabis.
The drugs were hidden inside thermos bottles and children's undergarments, media reported.
After publicizing pictures of the operation, Thailand police said the Maldivians were working with a group and operating a large drug network. However, they denied the allegations against them during the investigation, said the police.

During the investigation, the two Maldivians said they were unaware of the drugs inside the parcels and that a friend asked them to send the items via cargo. They also said that the cargo office did not take the parcels due to a foul odor and that they brought it back to their room.
The media reported that Thailand police are currently conducting an investigation to see whether there are any additional people involved.
