Driver tested positive for drugs in accident that claimed student's life

The driver of the taxi involved in the severe accident in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, which claimed the life of a Maldivian student, has tested positive for drugs, according to reports by the country's media.

Regarding the accident that occurred at around 8:48 Sunday night, Subang Jaya City Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat provided information to the media, stating that the accident happened when a Perodua Ativa brand car driven by a 37-year-old Malaysian man providing taxi services under ride-sharing collided with another car.

Due to the force of the collision, the car skidded and overturned in the middle of the road. Two 22-year-old female Maldivian students studying at a college were traveling in that car. Aminah imily Nazim, Marish, Hithadhoo, Addu City, passed away after being trapped inside the car and sustaining major injuries.

While the other student sustained minor injuries in this accident, Malaysian media reported that there were no serious injuries.

While Imily had already passed away by the time emergency teams reached the area, her body has now been taken to the Forensic Department of Serdang Hospital to conduct an autopsy.

In investigations conducted by the police following the accident, urine tests of the drivers of both cars showed that the man driving the taxi car was positive for methamphetamine, police stated. The court has granted a four-day remand for him.
