Two men have been arrested for allegedly making, possessing and selling liquor in Male'.
The two Indian nationals, Praveen Senthilkumar, 30, and Kankan Kirlappan, 23, were arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing, selling and trading liquor.
Police said the men were arrested in a joint operation by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Saturday.
As part of the investigation, police searched the suspects’ motorcycle and a house in Male'.
Police said they recovered 906 500ml bottles of suspected liquor, 16 drums containing suspected liquor and a large amount of cash. The motorcycle used by the suspects was also towed.
The two men were handed over to Immigration for action under the Immigration Act, police said.
Police is currently investigating the case.
