Attorney General Ahmed Usham said it will take a month to study reports from the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Disappearances (PCDD), formed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government.

While speaking on the 8th episode of the "Ahaa" forum, a collaborative series between the President's Office and Public Service Media (PSM), Usham said even though the previous government formed the commission, the cases the commission had were still unfinished by the time the government's term ended.

However, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu instructed that a deadline be set for June 2024 for the commission's cases to be completed, and that the cases that were finished by the deadline saw the commission's reports be sent to the President, said Usham.

According to Usham, the reports are currently being studied. He said that it will be done within the coming month, the President will be advised and reports that have information that can be shared to the public will be publicized during the study phase.

“The issue is that, because of the way the reports have been structured and the information included in them, there are certain pieces of classified information from police intelligence. So, we are currently reviewing how much of that information can be revealed,” the attorney general said.

Sister of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan, Shehenaz, requested at the "Ahaa" forum last night to describe the PCDD's conclusion to Rilwan's case. She expressed concern due to her having requested a meeting with the Attorney General for the past months in order to acquire the PCDD's reports on Rilwan's case, but that no one had responded to her.

Usham stated he will meet with Rilwan's family this coming week and will share information that can be shared.

Under powers granted by the Constitution to the president, the PCDD was formed in 2018 operated from 1st January 2012 to 17th November 2018, and was formed so that murder and disappearances cases that were not adequately investigated due to various reasons can be investigated independently.
